Cleanliness is key in any society, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Indian context. Our country is known for its varied cultures and heritage, but at the same time, we are also one of the most polluted nations on Earth. Part of the reason for this is our lack of infrastructure, which leaves much of our population without access to proper sanitation.
This leaves them at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to fighting against the spread of infectious diseases. Swachh Bharat (Clean India) is a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the goal of making India “the cleanest and most transparent” nation in the world by 2019. In order to help make this happen, read on for a few tips on how you can be a part of this campaign and help make India a cleaner place to live.
Swachh Bharat Mission
The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) is a national campaign launched on October 2, 2014, by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of making India clean and open for all. The SBM aims to achieve this by creating awareness and motivating citizens to take personal responsibility for cleaning up their environment.
Contributors to the SBM have set ambitious goals, including making every Indian community visibly clean by 2019 and making India free from open defecation by 2022. To date, more than 1.3 million villages have been covered under the SBM, and approximately 560 million people have been involved in various activities such as door-to-door campaigns, waste segregation at source, setting up toilets and so on.
The SBM has received praise for its holistic approach to hygiene promotion. This includes not only municipal infrastructure improvements but also empowering citizens with knowledge about hygiene and sanitation practices. The SBM seeks to create an impetus towards behavioural change amongst Indians in order to achieve its goals.
In addition to improving environmental conditions, the SBM is also expected to reduce health costs associated with poor hygiene practices such as diarrhoea.
Why is it important to clean our country?
Cleaning up the country is important because it will help improve the environment, public health, and general wellbeing. Clearing away all of the debris will also make it easier for people to see and walk on roads, which in turn helps reduce traffic congestion.
Another benefit of cleaning up our environment is that it will help prevent diseases from spreading. Dust particles and other contaminants can contain harmful germs, which if breathed in can cause respiratory problems or even cancer. By cleaning up our city streets, we can also make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists to go about their business.
Finally, keeping our country clean makes us feel more comfortable and connected to our surroundings. When everything around us is looking neat and tidy, we start to feel at ease and less likely to mess something up. This sense of orderliness promotes creativity, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility towards others.
How can we make our country clean?
Different people have different ideas and ways of cleaning up their environment. One way is to start by organizing and communicating with others to come up with a plan on how to clean up their area or town. Another way is to try out different methods and see what works best for them. There are many resources available on how to clean up an area, such as online articles, books, or instructional videos.
It is important to find something that is comfortable for the individual and that will work well in their particular situation. Once an area or town has been cleaned up, it is important to keep it clean by regular monitoring and maintenance.
Implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission
The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was launched on October 2, 2014 by the then Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The aim of the SBM is to make India clean and litter-free by 2019, a goal which has been declared as national priority.
The SBM is a massive initiative and will require a lot of effort and resources from the government and citizens alike. To start with, all central government buildings will be designated as ‘Swachh Bharat Buildings’ by October 2018. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will also launch an online portal called ‘Swachh Bharat Seva’ where citizens can report any wilful violation or untoward incident related to cleanliness. Various state governments have also started implementing various schemes under the SBM umbrella.
One of the biggest challengesfacing the SBM is how to motivate people to take up cleaning tasks voluntarily. Various campaigns have been launched in order to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness and motivate people to participate in the SWACHH BHARAT MISSION. Some of these campaigns include: ‘Nirbhaya’ ( fearless), ‘Garbage free Gita’, & ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ ( Save daughter, educate daughter).
So far, so good! But there is still a long way to go before we achieve our lofty goal of making India 100
